An Exciting Start as a Chinese PhD in US

Kuan Liu(the right one in white T-shirt) was discussing one major problem with other PhD students in his office.

Kuan Liu is currently one first-year PhD student in Computer Science Department of University of Southern California. His research focuses on Machine Learning. His advisor, Fei Sha, coming from China, has stayed in US for twenty years.

Liu made his mind to pursue a doctoral degree in the United States two years ago. His summer exchange experience in University of Notre Damemade him more determined to follow an academic path in US.

Having been in USC over two months, he felt excited about the intensive research life and enjoyed discussion with his advisor and other PhD students. However, limited chances to talk with American students made him a little frustrated. Language barriers also brought him many problems when talking with natives.
